What is MH CET Law Examination

  • MH CET Law is a state-level exam conducted by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra for admissions to law courses offered at participating law colleges in Maharashtra. Through the MH CET law exam, law aspirants are shortlisted for admissions to 11,951 seats (excluding management intake) for the 5-year LLB program and around 16,420 seats for the 3-year LLB courses.
  • The MHCET law exam is conducted in an online mode, computer-based mode, and is of two hours duration. The question paper contains 150 multiple-choice questions..

Eligibility Criteria

            For 5-year LLB:

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • They should have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination/ Intermediate Examination/ 12th Board Examination from any recognized educational institution under the state board or national board of education.
  • Moreover, they must have secured 45% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam.
  • If belonging to SC/ ST category of Maharashtra state, then the minimum marks required are 40% as per relaxation in aggregate marks. Candidates belonging to VJNT, SBC and OBC categories in Maharashtra need a minimum of 42% in their qualifying exam to take MHCET Law 2023 exam for 5-year LLB.
  • As per the age limit criteria, candidates should be at least 20 years old at the time of admission. However, in case of candidates belonging to OBC, SC, ST categories of Maharashtra state, the age limit is 22 years minimum at the time of admission.

             For 3-year LLB

  • The candidates must have passed the graduation exam in any discipline.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying exams in the exam year may also apply.
  • General category candidates belonging to Maharashtra and outside Maharashtra must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 45% marks.
  • SC/ST candidates belonging to Maharashtra must have an undergraduate degree with a minimum aggregate score of 40%.
  • VJNT, SBC and OBC must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 42%.

Registration Process

  • Online registration– The candidate needs to register themselves to the CET Cell portal and create an applicant account. To get registered, the candidate will have to enter his name, email id, and mobile number. The candidate will also have to select and confirm a password.
  • Fill in the form– In this step, fill in your personal, academic, and contact details.
  • Upload signature and password– The documents uploaded must be as per the prescribed specification.
  • Pay the application fee– The application fee of INR 800 (INR 600 for reserved category candidates belonging to Maharashtra) has to be paid in online mode.

Syllabus

  • Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning: This subject will evaluate a candidate’s interest towards the study of Law, Legal aptitude and problem-solving ability. Questions will be framed with the help of legal prepositions and a set of facts to which the said prepositions have to be applied. Some prepositions may not be true in the real sense. Candidates will have to assume the truth of these prepositions and answer the questions by drawing well supported conclusions.  
  • General Knowledge with Current Affairs:  The topics such as History, Geography, General Science, Economics, Civics, and the Current Affairs of the past One Year. The subject is to assess the knowledge of the recent happening and awareness of the World. 
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning:  The subject is to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include wide analogies, completing arguments, drawing well supported conclusions, reasoning by analogy, applying principles or rules. Further the subject is to measure the ability to understand the structure, relationship and to draw logical conclusions about the structures. It includes reasoning deductively from the set of statements and rules or principles that describe the relationship among persons, things, or events. 
  • English:  This section will consist of the questions on the areas like Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, analogies etc.) Proficiency (Idioms and Phrases, One-word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, and rearrangement, Fill in the Blanks etc.) English Usage Errors (Common errors, spotting errors, inappropriate usage of words, spelling mistakes etc.) English Comprehension with minimum two passages followed by Five to Ten questions that evaluate reading and reasoning abilities.

  • Application Form Processing Fees can be paid through on-line system only by Internet Payment, Credit Card/ Debit Card (RuPay / Visa / MasterCard / Maestro), Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets for which the service charges, as per rules, shall be applicable in addition to the application form Processing Fees. No other mode of payment is permitted.

  • The fees once paid are non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances.

MH CET Counselling

  • The counselling process of MH CET law is known as the Centralized Admission Process (or CAP).
  • The counseling is conducted in online mode separately for the 3-year and 5-year LLB programs.
  • For the 3-year LLB program, there are 147 participating institutes, with the seat intake standing at 16, 420. The 5-year LLB program has an intake of 10, 920 seats at 132 approved colleges.
  • The MHCET counselling process is explained in brief below:
  • Registration – Eligible candidates need to register for counselling online, enter their choice of colleges and pay the counselling fee.
  • Document verification – The admission committee will E-uploaded documents and the information entered by candidate at the time of filling the application form. Only such candidates who successfully complete the verification process will be considered for the next step.
  • Publication of Alphabetical Merit List – The merit list will include the names of candidates shortlisted for the counselling and seat allotment process.
  • Submission of grievances – Any candidates who have any objection against the merit list are allowed to challenge it.
  • Publication of Final Merit List – The final list will be published after making any corrections to the provisional list considering objections by candidates.
  • Allotment of seats – Finally, seats will be allocated by considering (i) the MH CET law 2023 merit rank of the candidate, and (ii) College options picked at the time of counselling registration.

Note that there will be two rounds of CAP. If there are any seats that lie vacant after CAP allotment rounds, then such seats will be filled at an institutional level by respective law colleges.
